The past two years have marked the most competitive recruitment cycles to date. Last year’s competitiveness took many by surprise, driven by a sharp increase in applicant numbers – mostly attributable to Trackr.
In many ways, this year mirrors the 2024 cycle, with competitiveness remaining high but relatively stable. Trackr (Formerly Bristol Tracker) is now a mainstream tool used by everyday applicants, helping to democratise access to internship opportunities.
DE&I remains a growing priority for employers – a trend clearly reflected in the data. Having previous internships remains inconsequential, and past Spring Weeks continue to be the driving factor on a candidate’s resume.
In the 2025 edition of the Summer Internship Season Report, we provide a detailed statistical breakdown of how different elements of a candidate’s profile influence their application outcomes, while also giving students a chance to reflect on their journey.
New this year, we’ve also invited employers to share their perspectives on the current state of campus recruitment, along with advice for future applicants.
We hope this report offers students the data and insights needed to strengthen their applications and gives employers a clearer picture of the competitive landscape and applicant sentiment.
