The 2023/24 recruitment cycle displayed the fiercest and least-forgiving competitive environment. Preceded by recessionary economic conditions, low 2023 full-time conversion rates, and the widening of accessibility to information via tools like Trackr (Formerly Bristol Tracker), securing an internship in finance has matured into an arduous pursuit.
At Trackr, we surveyed a total of 126 summer internship applicants across 37 different universities. In this report, we investigate the dynamics of recruitment for summer interns, specifically across investment banking and other areas of finance. We unveil some alarming statistics and provide personal testaments from real candidates.
